The Penn Hills School Board named Stephen M. Vak interim superintendent at its meeting Monday evening. Dr. Vak replaces Joseph Carroll, 60, who will retire in July.
Dr. Vak, 64, was superintendent of Kiski Area School District from 1982 to 2003.
He will earn a maximum of $68,500 for each six-month period that he works. The board authorized a search for a permanent superintendent at the meeting.
The board also approved its 2010-11 budget of $76.1 million. The budget does not require an increase in the district's 24.81-mill tax rate.
