The Penguins reduced their training-camp roster to 30 today by assigning 11 players to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.
Forwards Chris Conner, Nick Johnson, Brett Sterling, Joe Vitale and Tim Wallace, defensemen Robert Bortuzzo, Corey Potter, Brian Strait and Steve Wagner and and goalies Brad Thiessen and John Curry were sent to the Baby Penguins.
Conner, Curry, Potter, Sterling, Wagner and Wallace will go on waivers and, if not claimed by noon Thursday, will report to Wilkes-Barre.
The roster includes 18 forwards, 10 defensemen and two goalies.
The Penguins must be down to no more than 23 players before the start of the regular season Oct. 7.
Of the 30 players still on the NHL roster, three -- forwards Jordan Staal and Casey Pierro-Zabotel and defenseman Alex Grant -- are injured. Staal is the only one of those who figures in the Penguins'
plans for the 2010-11 season.
