In their first notable roster move of the season, the Penguins today recalled defenseman Kris Letang from their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton minor-league team.

Letang, 20, is an offensive defenseman who was drafted in the third round in 2005.

He made the Penguins' roster at the start of last season, getting two goals in seven games, before being returned to his junior team, Val d'Or, where, as team captain, he had 38 points in 52 games and a plus-minus rating of plus-19 in 40 games. He also captained Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Championships.

Despite high expectations, Letang began this season with the Baby Penguins, getting a goal and six assists in 10 games.

The Penguins send little-used defenseman Alain Nasreddine and forward Tyler Kennedy to Wilkes-Barre.
