Penguins name Sykora, Whitney alternate captains

BOSTON -- Right winger Petr Sykora and defenseman Ryan Whitney are the Penguins' alternate captains for January.

"They deserve it," coach Michel Therrien said. "Whitney grew up (in the organization) and became a good player and is a guy who cares about the team ... Sykora has done the same thing with leadership."

Sidney Crosby is the team captain but Therrien rotates alternate captains.

Therrien also said defenseman Kris Letang, who missed four games with a foot injury, will be in the lineup when the Penguins face Boston at 7:08 tonight at TDBanknorth Garden.
