Penguins' Malkin named NHL's No. 2 star for January

Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was named the NHL's No. 2 star for the month of January.

New York Islanders center John Tavares was the No. 1 star, while Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne was No. 3.

Malkin had a league-high 12 goals and four assists during the month, and got at least one point in nine of the Penguins' 12 game.

Tavares led the league in points (22) and assists (13) in January, while getting one or more points in 12 of 13 games.

Rinne went 11-1, with a 1.92 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
