BOSTON -- The Penguins lost their third game in a row, 3-0, to the Boston Bruins tonight at TD Garden.
They also lost yet another defenseman when Brooks Orpik left in the first period. He crashed into the boards right-hip-first behind his net on a hit by Boston's Mark Stuart. The Penguins said he will be evaluated today.
The team already was playing without two regulars on defense, Sergei Gonchar (wrist) and Kris Letang (shoulder).
The loss ended a four-game, cross-country road trip at 1-3. They have been shut out two games in a row.
Boston took a 1-0 lead at 1:36 of the second period when Matt Hunwick lofted the puck past goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. The play initially was ruled no goal, but a review at the next stoppage, 1:20 later, revealed that Hunwick scored and the clock was reset.
Defenseman Derek Morris scored to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead when he had a breakaway down the slot and beat Fleury with a wrist shot to the stick side at 3:34 of the third period. Former Penguins winger Mark Recchi picked up his 900th career assist on the play.
The Penguins return home Thursday to play New Jersey.
