Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has been selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game.

He will replace Dustin Byfuglien of Winnipeg.

Letang's selection is something of a surprise, considering that he just returned from a 21-game absence because of a concussion.

"Obviously, I was surprised," Letang said. "I missed almost half of the first half (of the season)."

He has been outstanding when he's been in the lineup, though, putting up five goals and 18 assists in 25 games.

"I had a good start," Letang said.

He will be joined in the game by Penguins center Evgeni Malkin.
