The Penguins have hired former Atlanta Thrashers general manager Don Waddell as a pro scout.
Waddell, like Penguins GM Ray Shero, has been heavily involved in USA Hockey and joined Shero on the panel that selected the members of the 2010 Olympic team.
Waddell, 53, coached the U.S. entry at the Deutschland Cup tournament in November, and had Penguins player development coach Bill Guerin on his staff there.
Waddell was Detroit's assistant GM when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1998, and had worked with a number of minor-league clubs before joining Detroit.
