Penguins first-year general manager Ray Shero today named Chuck Fletcher as assistant general manager and announced that long-time Penguins employee Eddie Johnston will remain with the organization.

Fletcher, 39, is a Harvard graduate and former player agent who has spent 13 years in NHL management with Florida and Anaheim. He was with Florida in 1996 and with Anaheim in 2003 when those clubs reached the Stanley Cup final.

He will assist Shero on all hockey-related matters, including scouting, player development and contracts.

Fletcher is the son of longtime NHL executive and Hall of Fame member Cliff Fletcher, who was general manager of the 1989 Stanley Cup champion Calgary Flames.

Johnston, 70, has served as general manager, coach, assistant general manager and assistant coach over the past 23 years with the Penguins. He will be senior advisor in hockey operations under Shero.
