The Penguins overcame a three-goal, third-period deficit and extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5-4 shootout win against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at Consol Energy Center.

Evgeni Malkin tied it with 6.6 seconds left and was the only player to score in the shootout.

It was the Penguins' first game after the NHL All-Star break.

Mikhail Grabovski gave Toronto a 2-0 lead in the second period.

He opened the scoring at 6:51 when he took a feed from Dion Phaneuf, who was behind the net, and scored inside the left post.

Grabvoski gave the Maple Leafs a 2-0 lead at 9:35 of the second period on a wrist shot from the right dot that was screened by Deryk Engelland of the Penguins and Nikolai Kulemin of Toronto.

Matt Cooke brought the Penguins to within 2-1 at 16:07 of the second period when he tipped in a shot from the left point by Paul Martin.

The Maple Leafs responded with goals 19 seconds apart in the third period.

Tyler Bozak made it 3-1 at 6:18 with a blast from the right circle for a power-play goal, and Clarke MacArthur one-timed a pass from Grabovski at 6:37 to make it 4-1.

Steve Sullivan pulled the Penguins to within 4-2 at 8:33 of the third period with a slap shot from the right dot.

The Penguins closed it to 4-3 at 15:01 when Joe Vitale put in a bouncing puck from close range.

They tied it, 4-4, dramatically, with 6.6 seconds left in regulation when a shot by James Neal glanced in off the upper arm of Malkin. That gave them three goals in a span of 11 minutes, 20 seconds.

The Penguins have a rematch with the Maple Leafs Wednesday night in Toronto.
