Onorato to announce bid for governor next week

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato will announce his widely anticipated bid for governor next Tuesday in a cross-state swing that will take him from Philadelphia to Harrisburg and back to Pittsburgh.
"Now that we are through the G-20 and people are starting to pay more attention to next year's governor's race, it seemed like the appropriate time to make a formal announcement,'' said Kevin Kinross, the Democrat's campaign manager.
Mr. Onorato joins what is shaping up to be a crowded field vying for the Democratic nomination. Also vying for the spot are Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel; Chris Doherty, the mayor of Scranton; and Tom Knox, a millionaire businessman from Philadelphia. Auditor General Jack Wagner has yet to make a formal announcement of his candidacy but has made known his interest in the seat as well.
