Pittsburgh police are investigating a homicide in the Hill District and another shooting on the North Side that occurred within minutes of each other this morning.
A 26-year-old man died after he was shot in the back and cheek near the intersection of Chauncey Drive and Bedford Avenue about 11:40 a.m. Witnesses told police they saw an armed man wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans and possibly a mask chase the victim through the neighborhood.
When police arrived, the suspect was gone.
Medics transported the victim, whose name has not been released, to UPMC Mercy, where he died during surgery, police said in a news release.
Another shooting occurred six minutes later on the North Side.
Officers received a call at 11:46 a.m. for a report that a 17-year-old boy had been shot in the back at Brighton Road and Armandale Street, near the Zone 1 police station.
Witnesses told police the victim and another person had just exited a jitney on Brighton Road when someone, or multiple people, "opened fire striking one victim in the back," according to the release.
Witnesses told police a gray car, possibly a Taurus or Buick, with an unknown license plate number sped away.
Medics transported the victim to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition, and he has since been upgraded to stable.
