Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek will not be fined or suspended by the NHL for a hit on Washington's Matt Hendricks Sunday.

Michalek had a telephone hearing with NHL executive Brendan Shanahan before practice today.

Before the ruling came down late this afternoon, Michalek described his hit as "a hockey play," but said he had "no idea" whether the league would punish him for it.

There still is no word on whether Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin will be fined or suspended for leaving his feet to deliver a blow to Michalek's head a few minutes before the hit on Hendricks.
