Mom's boyfriend faces charges in child's death

A 29-year-old man has been charged in the beating death this morning of an 11-year-old boy at the child's home along Knox Avenue in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood.

Homicide Lt. Daniel Herrmann said Anthony Bush, who resided at the home, reportedly was watching the boy, Donovan McKee, while his mother was working Saturday night.
"Bush disciplined the child by beating him with various objects found in the apartment," according to the officer.
The incident at 107 Knox Ave. began at about 11:40 p.m. when the boy's mother called an emergency dispatcher, reporting that her boyfriend had assaulted her child and that the boy was unresponsive.
Police found the child lying on the floor, without a pulse. He appeared to have a head wound. Officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics and a doctor arrived on the scene. The boy, who had regained a slight pulse, was taken to UPMC Mercy then was transferred to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, where he died at 2:45 a.m. today.
Lt. Herrmann said a 5-year-old child was in the apartment at the time of the incident but that child was not injured.
No other details were released.
