McKeesport council approved an agreement on Wednesday with Federal Property Registration Corp. to provide an electronic registration process that will register vacant, abandoned and foreclosed properties so that the city can properly address violations of city maintenance codes.

The agreement is at no cost to the city and will generate some revenues, council members said.

"We're trying to get properties in the city that need to be demolished, or to clean them up," council president Darryl Segina said.

"So when residents call about [a vacant property's] overgrown weeds, the bank-owned properties will be held accountable at no expense to the city," Mayor Mike Cherepko said.
