Mars Area approves 2012-13 school calendar

The Mars Area school board last night approved the district's 2012-13 calendar that sets the first day of school for students Aug. 27.
The last day depends on the number of snow days. If no snow days are used, school will end on May 29. If all five snow days are needed, school will end on June 4.
The proposed calendar also includes five pre-scheduled two-hour delays for staff development on Friday, Sept. 28; Thursday, Nov. 1; Monday, Feb. 4; Wednesday, March 20; and Thursday, April 18.
The two-hour delays "are a little bit more family-friendly based on some feedback we received from the community," board President J. Dayle Ferguson said, adding that one delay was the morning after Halloween.
