WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A Pittsburgh man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and a gun charge in a fatal shooting at a Washington County home.
A judge yesterday sentenced 23-year-old Marquis Rector to three to seven years in prison for the Jan. 6, 2007, shooting of 32-year-old Jason McClain.
Prosecutors say gunfire erupted at a house in Midway after McClain returned armed with a gun. They say McClain had been arguing with another man earlier.
Prosecutors say Rector also was armed and killed McClain.
Rector's attorney says his client was prepared to argue self-defense at trial. But he says Rector had a prior criminal record and likely would have been convicted on the weapons charge.
