JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A federal court jury has found a central Pennsylvania man not guilty of possessing illegal explosive devices that prosecutors suggested were linked to the man's anti-government views.

Sixty-two-year-old Bradley Kahle of Troutville was among several people arrested in the summer of 2008 in a weapons raid in Clearfield County.

Mr. Kahle's attorney, Blair Hindman, argued that Mr. Kahle didn't build any illegal explosives beyond the 16 black powder sticks that Mr. Hindman likened to big firecrackers that Mr. Kahle liked setting off for kicks.

Prosecutors suggested Mr. Kahle planned to build bean-can grenades and other bombs, possibly for use by an anti-government militia to which they claimed Mr. Kahle belonged.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret Picking declined comment on Wednesday's verdict.
