A Pittsburgh man died when he rear-ended a PennDOT truck spreading salt on Interstate 376 East this morning and then his disabled vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer.
State police in New Castle said Rodney Shropshire, 40, of the western portion of Pittsburgh, rear-ended a PennDOT plow truck at mile marker 6 in Pulaski Township in Lawrence County at about 6:50 a.m. for "reasons unknown."
The crash damaged his 2007 Nissan Altima, leaving it stuck in the right-hand lane of the highway without any lights on.
Shortly afterward, a tractor-trailer ran into Mr. Shropshire's car, killing him. A deputy coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
