A 53-year-old wanted man was in the Allegheny County Jail Friday on a theft charge after police said he stole a pocket calendar from a Downtown store and gave officers a false name.
Pittsburgh police received a call Thursday from a employee at J.R. Weldin Company on Wood Street, who told them he had stopped a suspected shoplifter.
When police asked the man for his name and date of birth, the man handed them a plastic UPMC wrist identification tag with the name "Dibucci, Vito." The man insisted that he was Vito Dibucci but consistently gave officers the wrong date of birth, according to a criminal complaint.
Finally, after police continued to question him about his date of birth, the man said, "You guys are going to find out anyway. I'm Eugene Britt and I have a couple warrants."
Mr. Britt, whose address was not listed in the complaint, was wanted on three bench warrants. The store employee told police he spotted Mr. Britt trying to walk out of the store with a $12.99 page-a-day calendar tucked under his left arm.
Mr. Britt was being held on $5,000 bail Friday night, according to court records.
