Larry Bruno, former Beaver Falls coach, dies

Larry Bruno, who was Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath's high school coach, died early today in Beaver Falls. Mr. Bruno was 88.

Mr. Bruno was Beaver Falls High School's football coach from 1959-78. He guided Beaver Falls to the WPIAL Class AA championship and a 10-0 record in 1960. Mr. Namath, who would go on to lead the New York Jets to victory in Super Bowl III, was the star quarterback on that team.

When Mr. Namath was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in 1985 he asked Mr. Bruno to be his presenter.

Before going to Beaver Falls, Mr. Bruno was the head coach at Monaca High School from 1949-58. His Beaver Falls teams compiled a 184-52-9 record in 20 years.
