The Pittsburgh office of the National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against UPMC alleging the Pittsburgh health system has violated federal labor laws in its efforts to tamp down union organizing at its hospitals.

The board has charged UPMC with 80 instances of labor violations in what the regional director, Robert W. Chester, said was the biggest case brought against a single employer in the four years he has headed the Pittsburgh office.

The board has scheduled a hearing for Feb. 5 before an administrative law judge.
