Micah Mason, basketball star at Highlands High School, has decided to play at Drake University.

Mason, a junior, made a verbal commitment to Drake after visiting the school this weekend. Drake is a Division I college in Des Moines, Iowa.

"I just loved it there," Mason said."I loved everything about it. Everyone. I just want to be there."

Mason, a 6-foot-1 guard, led the WPIAL in scoring this season at 34 points a game. He scored 64 in one game, the second-most in WPIAL history.

Drake had offered Mason a scholarship about two months ago. Four different coaches from Drake had made visits to Highlands over the past few months to watch Mason. Butler University coach Brad Stevens came to Highlands Tuesday and watched Mason work out. Butler did not offer a scholarship, but Stevens asked for Mason to send his grade transcripts to Butler.

Richmond also came to watch Mason work out this past week.

Mason insisted it won't matter who offers scholarships from here on out. He won't change his mind out Drake. He can't sign a binding letter of intent until November.

"No one has showed the interest in me that Drake has showed," Mason said.
