The Pirates and closer Joel Hanrahan avoided salary arbitration today when they agreed to a one-year contract for 2012.
Financial terms were not immediately available. ESPN's Keith Law reported on Twitter that Hanrahan got $4.1 million.
He made $1.4 million in 2011, also agreeing to a contract shortly before the deadline to exchange figures last offseason.
Hanrahan, 30, saved 40 games last season and made the All-Star team for the first time.
The Pirates have five remaining players eligible for arbitration: Evan Meek, Charlie Morton, Jeff Karstens, Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee.
