Greene County commissioner Pam Snyder to replace DeWeese as Democratic candidate

Greene County Commissioner Pam Snyder has been tapped to run as the Democratic candidate for the state House from the 50th Legislative District.
She will face Republican Mark Fischer, of Waynesburg, in the November general election.
Commonwealth Court judges removed veteran legislator Bill DeWeese from the ballot last week, ruling he was ineligible to run because he was in jail. DeWeese was convicted of public corruption charges and sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison.
Ms. Snyder was the unanimous choice of state committee members who met this morning in Rices Landing, in the northeast corner of Greene County, to select a replacement for DeWeese.
The 50th District includes all of Greene County and portions of Fayette and Washington counties.
Jim Burn, state chairman of the Democratic Party, praised the selection of Ms. Snyder. He pointed to her record of public service and what he called her "modest and humble" approach to the job.
Mr. Burn said he had known her for many years. He has worked with her when she served as a state committee member and in his role as an Allegheny County councilman.
