Green Tree approves City Vista development

Green Tree council Monday night unanimously approved a residential development behind Parkway Center Mall.
Groundbreaking for the project is expected in the spring and the cost is still being determined.
Developers are touting City Vista as a 16-acre residential development and walking community, spanning an old driving range behind mall. Plans include a clubhouse, swimming pool, covered parking, green space and a choice of residential units.
To win approval from council, the project's blueprints have been retooled to shorten buildings from nine stories to four and five stories, and to decrease residential units from 500 to 272. Sixty percent of those units will have two bedrooms, 32 percent will have one bedroom and 8 percent will offer three bedrooms.
The units will rent from $975 to $1,900, with the average rent about $1,400, according to Bill Brown, a representative with Atlanta-based Oxford Properties that operates in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware markets and will manage City Vista. No utilities would be included in those figures, he said.
The project initially involved nearly 500 residential units and 26 acres -- 10 of those in the City of Pittsburgh. After complaints from the city's Ridgemont residents, the plans were revamped to include only Green Tree at this time. Developers may revisit plans to expand City Vista into Pittsburgh
