Gonchar goes to Ottawa

Free-agent defenseman Sergei Gonchar has left the Penguins.
He accepted a three-year contract worth $5.5 million per season with Ottawa. The deal includes a no-trade clause.
The Penguins were offering a two-year contract believed to be worth $5 million per year.
Because Gonchar, 36, is older than 35 when signing his deal with the Senators, they will be on the hook for his money, for salary-cap purposes, for the life of the agreement, even if he retires.
He was the first big-name free agent to change teams after the signing period began at noon.
