Fitzgerald, Flaherty pick up endorsements in county exec race

The Allegheny County Labor Council AFL-CIO today endorsed Democrat Rich Fitzgerald for the county's chief executive, while the Teamsters Joint Council No. 40 threw its support behind Democrat Mark Patrick Flaherty for the position.
The county labor council represents thousands of workers locally, and the Teamsters Joint Council No. 40 represents about 35,000 workers in Western Pennsylvania.
Former County Council president, Mr. Fitzgerald's endorsements include U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, State Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Highland Park; and the Allegheny County Chamber of Commerce, his campaign said.
Allegheny County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91 is supporting Mr. Flaherty, the county's two-term controller, the campaign announced. Earlier, Boilermakers Local 154, representing about 2,200 workers in the region, endorsed Mr. Flaherty.
