Federal customs agents in Pittsburgh seized some 5,000 unlicensed sports jerseys, all made in China, over the past three days at DHL's Pittsburgh office as part of a nationwide crackdown on fake merchandise geared to coincide with the Super Bowl.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement hauled away Steelers and Penguins jerseys and other Super Bowl-related gear this morning, Thursday and Wednesday.
ICE offices did the same in Minneapolis, Dallas and elsewhere.
Federal agents routinely sweep into express mail facilities nationwide to seize counterfeit merchandise shipped from overseas. The last time they did it here was before the Winter Classic hockey game in December.
The value of the shirts seized this week is about $1.45 million.
