A few hours before the body of Karissa Kunco was found, Jordan Clemons called a friend and sounded distraught, the friend testified at a preliminary hearing today.
"He said, 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. She's dead,'" Randol Taylor said.
Mr. Clemons, 22, was held for trial on charges of homicide abuse of corpse, access device fraud, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence following the hearing this morning.
Ms. Kunco, 21, of Baldwin Borough, was found with her throat slit off the side of a road in Mount Pleasant in Washington County on Jan. 12. Mr. Clemons, her ex-boyfriend, was taken into custody that day and later charged in her death.
Mr. Clemons was also held for trial on charges of robbery, burglary, theft and simple assault after a second preliminary hearing. Those charges stem from an armed robbery that occurred just days before Ms. Kunco was found dead.
He waived his hearing on a third case in which prosecutors said he ran from police who were attempting to arrest him on an assault warrant.
In that case, prosecutors withdrew an escape charge and downgraded a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension to a misdemeanor, Mr. Clemons' attorney, Peter Marcoline, said.
