BRADENTON, Fla. -- Manager Jim Tracy announced this morning that pitcher Zach Duke will start for the Pirates opening day in Houston April 2 and that Ian Snell will start the home opener against St. Louis at PNC Park April 9.

Snell also will start the second game of the season in Houston.

Duke will make his second start April 7 in Cincinnati.

Tracy didn't announce any other starting assignments other than that whoever is the Pirates' fifth starter -- probably right-hander Tony Armas Jr. or left-hander Tom Gorzelanny -- will start the Sunday game in Cincinnati April 8.

In Paul Meyer's Pirates Notebook today, Tracy talked about his pitchers' recent performance.
