Allegheny County Sheriff's deputies searching for a Megan's Law violator found him hiding under a pile of clothes in a Scott Township home Wednesday night.
Scott M. Kochis, 34, of Highland Park, pleaded guilty to indecent assault on a minor in September, which required him to register his address with authorities. When Pittsburgh Police discovered last week that his given address was bogus, it triggered a two-day search by deputies and state troopers across Allegheny, Washington and Fayette counties.
Deputies eventually converged on a home in the 600 block of Carothers Avenue in Scott Township. Resident Nicole Kovacic, 34, initially told police that Mr. Kochis was not there, but when threatened with arrest should he be apprehended, she admitted he was present. Deputies found him hiding under clothes in her laundry room.
They also found three minor children living in the home, so Ms. Kovacic, who police said knew of Mr. Kochis's sexual offender status, was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children.
