Cranberry supervisors voted unanimously Thursday night to increase water rates.

The new rate will go into effect in September. At the same time, billing will be shifted from quarterly to monthly.

Township Manager Jerry Andree said the rate increase was needed to cover additional costs associated with the water system, including a bulk water rate increase from the West View Water Authority. While Cranberry distributes water to customers, bulk water is provided by the authority.

The new rate will be $5.09 per thousand gallons of water consumed, up from $4.86 per thousand gallons. Mr. Andree estimated the average monthly impact at $1.54 for a typical township household, based on usage statistics.
