A man from Coraopolis was killed Monday evening after skiing off a trail in Seven Springs Resort and hitting his head on rocks.

David A. McClelland, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene 6:56 p.m.

State police in Somerset interviewed witnesses who reported seeing Mr. McClelland ski off the run and into a wooded rocky area, where he lost control sometime between 6 and 6:15 p.m.

"At some point, the victim struck his head off some rocks and was knocked unconscious," police said.

Ski patrol attempted to resuscitate him, but was not successful.

Seven Springs spokeswoman Anna Weltz said the resort is "deeply saddened" by Mr. McClelland's death.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to this gentleman's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time," she said.
