A man pepper-sprayed two Carnegie Mellon University students before robbing one of them early Sunday morning, prompting the university's police to send out a campus crime alert to faculty, staff and students.

According to the alert, two students were walking on Ellsworth Avenue near Morewood Avenue when a man approached them and pepper-sprayed both of them. He then took one of the student's cell phones and ran down Ellsworth Avenue.

The witnesses described the suspect as a black man, approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black leather jacket, a blue-hooded sweatshirt and a black knitted cap.
