City schools hire deputy superintendent

The Pittsburgh school board tonight hired a Des Moines, Iowa, school administrator as deputy superintendent for instruction, assessment and accountability.
Linda S. Lane, 57, begins the $160,000-a-year job next month. She will be eligible for performance bonuses of $10,000 and $15,000, respectively, in the second and third years of her three-year contract.
She replaces Lynn Spampinato, who left the district under murky circumstances last month and is serving as a paid consultant.
