Canonsburg man found dead at bottom of staircase

A resident of a personal care home was found dead Sunday at the bottom of a snow-covered basement staircase in a Canonsburg church.

Wayne E. Murphy, 60, of Canonsburg, was found at 7:40 p.m. in the rear of Mount Olive Baptist Church on Greenside Avenue. He lived across the street in a personal care home and had been reported missing around noon. He had last been seen around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to the Washington County Coroner.

Mr. Murphy was found by a church member. Canonsburg police are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled, according to the coroner.
