Butler County teen killed in interstate crash

A teenager from Mars was killed this morning after he lost control of the car he was driving and it crashed into a tanker truck along Interstate 79 in Marshall.

State police said Ibn Y. Hoffman, 19, was northbound at 5:30 a.m. when his car drifted into the grassy median. He lost control of the car as he attempted to correct its direction. The vehicle crossed the median and hit an oncoming tanker driven by Bradley L. Airesman, 39.

Mr. Airesman attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful, police said. Meanwhile, Robert J. Trimbur, 41, southbound on the interstate in a car, was able to avoid crashing into the colliding vehicles in front of him but was his car was hit by flying debris, police said.

Mr. Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6 a.m. A passenger in his car, Trent S. Nelson, 18, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, North Side. Mr. Airesman was taken to UPMC Passavant. Mr. Trimbur was not hurt. Police did not provide addresses for the people involved in the accident.

Interstate 79 at the Wexford on-ramp was shut down for about four hours.
