A Jackson Township police officer was taken to the Butler County jail under charges that he struck and threatened his girlfriend.
State Police at the Butler barracks charged Officer Kenneth Bowland, 35, with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other charges. A woman he lives with in Prospect, Pa., told police that Mr. Bowland choked, grabbed and punched her in the stomach, causing her to vomit blood earlier this week, but she held back from contacting police after he threatened her and her family, at one point holding a gun to her head. Thursday evening a friend of the unidentified 32 year old called state police on her behalf.
Mr. Bowland will have a preliminary hearing Dec. 29 before Slippery Rock District Justice Timothy Shaffer.
