The Allegheny County Bar Association this week announced its most recent public service project, "Calling All Suits."
The group's public service committee is seeking donations of business suits in good condition that will be donated to Project Employ, which offers career counseling to clients who have been homeless or incarcerated. The suits will be distributed for clients to wear for job interviews.
The clothing drive will run through October, and organizers hope to collect at least 250 business suits for both men and women. They have asked that the suits be laundered, in good condition and not dated.
The 250-suit goal reflects the city of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday.
"We have asked our members to do one more thing in October to impact 250 lives, and they are responding with worthwhile and creative ideas such as Calling All Suits," said Jay Blechman, president of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
There are two collection sites: Allegheny County Bar Association headquarters, 4th floor, Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Ave., and also at the offices of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser, LLC, in the Frick Building, Suite 501, 437 Grant St.
Project Employ serves people who are referred by several organizations, including Light of Life Shelter, Renewal, HEARTH house, Deborah House, Women's Place, YWCA, YMCA, Lydia's Place, Miryam's, Bethlehem Haven and Adult Parole/Probation.
