A man who robbed an Aliquippa bank yesterday morning stumbled while running away from the building, dropping almost $1,000 in cash on the street and in an alley.
The man, dressed in black clothing and wearing black gloves and a black nylon mask, entered the Citizens Bank branch on 22nd Street at about 9:15 a.m., Aliquippa Police Chief Ralph Pallante said. The man pulled out a knife, demanded money, jumped the counter and grabbed handfuls of cash from the tellers' drawers before running out the front door.
When the man tried to jump about four feet down from the parking lot to the sidewalk, he stumbled and began dropping some of the money, which trickled out for about 30 feet as the man ran down the street and into an alley, Chief Pallante said. Police recovered $992 but are not sure if the man dropped all the money that he stole.
The FBI is investigating the robbery, Chief Pallante said.
The man, who removed his mask while running down the alley, is described as a black male with braided hair.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Aliquippa Police at 724-375-6682.
