NEW PARIS, Pa. -- A pharmacist says he'll seek the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Casey.
The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown reports 48-year-old John Kensinger, 48, of New Paris, is seeking the nomination because he wants to join other Republicans in reducing the federal budget and getting a stagnant economy turned around.
Mr. Kensinger is from New Paris, about 40 miles southwest of Altoona.
Mr. Casey is expected to seek a second term.
Others seeking the Republican nomination next year include John Vernon, a retired Army colonel from Tioga County; Harrisburg-area lawyer Marc Scaringi; Bucks County businessman David Christian; and Laureen Cummings, a Scranton-area tea party activist.
