Millvale has been awarded a $703,525 state grant to plant 850 trees and construct mounded swales to control stormwater runoff into Girty's Run.

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, known as PENNVEST, announced the grant today. The project, which will be done in conjunction with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, is one of 23 pollution control, drinking water and wastewater projects in 19 counties that PENNVEST will fund with $27 million in grants and $71 million in low-interest loans.

Gov. Tom Corbett, in a statement that was part of the PENNVEST news release, said the projects are important to the health and well-being of Pennsylvanians.

The funding for the PENNVEST projects is provided by a combination of state funds, federal grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and PENNVEST loan repayments from previous awards.
