$55.9 million loss for WPAHS in half of fiscal year

West Penn Allegheny Health System has lost $55.9 million in the first six months of its current fiscal year that ends June 30, including $34.1 million from September through December of 2011.

Its six-month operating losses were $63.9 million according to financial statements filed by the health system today.

The insurer Highmark, Inc. has committed $475 million to support West Penn Allegheny. State regulators are reviewing their affiliation agreement.
