Three people were sent to area hospitals this morning after an ambulance and a car collided at an intersection in Duquesne.
The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. at Route 837 and West Grant Avenue, the site of an accident Monday involving a Port Authority bus.
It was not clear how serious the injuries were to the two-member crew of the Duquesne Emergency Medical Service ambulance or the driver of the car.
The ambulance was on the way to a call and traveling east on West Grant Avenue while the car was headed south on Route 837 in the fast lane.
EMS personnel told police that the ambulance driver, Mary Vallus, 21, of Duquesne, looked both ways, saw traffic stopped and then proceeded through the intersection, Duquesne police secretary Lori Achtzehn said.
Brigitte Keegan, 32, of Sutersville, told police she saw the ambulance and tried to stop but lost control of her car on the wet roadway, Ms. Achtzehn said. The car slid into the intersection, and its right front struck the ambulance's left front.
The third person who was injured was not named in the police report. The victims were taken to either UPMC Mercy or UPMC Presbyterian.
No charges have been filed by police. It was not clear if Duquesne police were still investigating the accident.
