Who knew that the epicenter of chainsaw carving was in Elk County's Ridgway? More than 200 carvers from around the world are gathering this weekend in Ridgway for the 14th annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous that ends on Saturday with an auction of many of the sculptures created throughout the week.

New this year is the release of scores of flying Chinese lanterns on Friday night.

Rick and Randy Boni, brothers who own the Appalachian Arts Studio, an artists retreat on Boot Jack Mountain, started the event by gathering friends and family members for some chainsaw carving. The event grew bigger every year and now draws more than 15,000 spectators throughout the week.
