The YMCA was staying out of the rough Aug. 6 with its annual Golf Tournament at St. Clair Country Club. After the players finished their rounds they were treated to cocktails, dinner and a silent auction. Then came the big announcement about the Spencer family's generous gift toward building a full-facility Y in the South Hills. In recognition of the family's leadership and spirit of giving, the new Y will be named the Spencer Family YMCA. Among those on hand were YMCA trustee and tournament founder Larry Spencer, Bill Spencer, his wife, Jill, and daughter Lilly. The standing ovation that followed the announcement was led by tournament director Dan Grealish, chair Larry Spencer, board members Grant Mason, Lee Baierl, Matt Burger, Lew Gardner, Carol Neyland and Joe Balestrino. Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield was the event's presenting sponsor. The event raised $157,000 to fund critical needs of families and children in urban neighborhoods.
