The Denis Theatre Foundation celebrated "The Ultimate Coming Attraction" Wednesday evening at the Mount Washington home of Peter Karlovich and Steve Hereforth. The party was a chance to note the progress of the foundation's effort to reopen and rehabilitate the Denis Theatre in Mt. Lebanon.

Built in 1938, the old movie house has made some powerful new friends through the foundation. Board members and friends gathered to celebrate the addition of four honorary chairs to their board of advisers. Director Rob Marshall, actress Barbara Feldon, artist Burton Morris and actor F. Murray Abraham all agreed to lend their names and star power to help resurrect the Denis.

"We are so excited about kicking off a vibrant new phase," said foundation director Valerie Golik (with Mark). The capital campaign chaired by Blaine and Terri Lucas raised $1 million in the past two months toward transforming the theater into an independent venue for arts, film and cultural programing. The goal is to raise $2.5 million. "We are hoping to open the Encore Theater, which is phase one, in late 2012 or early 2013 and the entire Denis Theatre by 2014," she added. Linda Shaw organized a group of women who volunteered to provide the treats and sweets, while Mt. Lebanon High School strings and jazz quartet performed. The big moment came when original art designed by Burton Morris for the Denis was unveiled. Enjoying the art, entertainment and the venue with the view were Jon and Jane Delano, board president Jen Smokelin with Ralph Vendredi, Bill and Joann Mehaffey, Michele Mandell and Tom Hunley.
