Savor Pittsburgh raises funds for the National Pancreas Foundation

The rain disappeared on Thursday just in time for Savor Pittsburgh, a best restaurants kind of benefit that really does have the best. A select 23 are chosen to participate and compete for "Dish of the Year," selected by a panel of judges and the more than 1,000 guests who turned out to sample specialities from some of the city's finest restaurants. Among them were Spoon, Capital Grille, Habitat, Jackson's, Osteria 2350, Donato's and Silk Elephant.
Sponsored by MOSAIC Consulting and McCormick & Schmick's (which won best entree for executive chef Ricky Kirsop), the benefit was held in a tent next to the restaurant at SouthSide Works. While No Bad Ju Ju entertained, martinis were being served from the Ketel One vodka luge, silent auction items were being perused, and a delectable assortment of dishes kept the crowd circulating beneath the big top.
Among the favorites: Best Appetizer went to Meat & Potatoes (executive chef Richard DeShantz) for "Tasting of Pig"; Best Dessert to Cioppino pastry chef Meghann Walsh for her banana french toast & chocolate bacon; People's Choice to Savoy Restaurant and Lounge; and Dish of the Year to Meat & Potatoes.
Proceeds this year went to the National Pancreas Foundation, co-founded here in Pittsburgh by Patter Birsic. Chairing the event were Pam McMahon of SouthSide Works and Michelle Kirsop of McCormick & Schmick's. Christina Dickerson was the event organizer. More than $150,000 was grossed by evening's end.
