Pittsburgh Opera's Auld Lang Syne IV rang in the new year in high style at Carnegie Music Hall on New Year's Eve.

Coral, tangerine and red showing up on glittery gowns, festive cocktail dresses and sharp lapels predicted an optimistic 2013. The evening began with cocktails in the glorious Hall of Sculpture, where mingling took on a whole new level among the grand marble columns and sculpture. The party then moved to the magnificent foyer of the Music Hall where gold lame tablecloths and delicate tea lights were the perfect accents to the stately gilded tray ceilings above, providing ambience to spare.

Antony Walker, opera music director, flew in to conduct the musical portion of the program, and guests were greeted by general director Christopher Hahn (with Ron Booth) and co-chairs Rose Kutsenkow and Roseanne Wholey (with Dr. Mark). The evening was dedicated to the memory of George R. White, longtime opera board member who died Jan. 14, 2012. His widow, Kathleen White, served as honorary chair for the evening.

After a dinner of roasted beef, chicken and root vegetables and some early dancing, guests moved into the Music Hall for an outstanding 90 minute concert by the Pittsburgh Opera orchestra and resident artists, who sang works by Strauss, Bizet and Rossini. A sumptuous dessert buffet awaited revelers afterward. A second wave of guests arrived for the concert and afterparty, with dancing to Finesse featuring Peaches of Peaches and Herb.

Ringing in the new year were board chair Michele Fabrizi, board president Clyde Jones, Vivian and Bill Benter, Dolores and John Barber, Mark and Catherine Loevner, Dr. Lisa Cibik and Bernie Kobosky, Wallis and Marshall Katz, Francois Bitz and Dawn Davies, Laurie and Jim Cunningham, Anita and Ross Dacal, Nachum Golan and Steve Hough, John Tippins and Dr. Laura Pallan, Phyllis Sidwell, Steve Mendelson and Toni Chiapinni, Gail and Steve Mosites, Judy and Hale Oliver, Ed Beachler and Jean Ann Hattler, Mary Anne and Victor Papale, Jaya and Vardhan Reddy, Jamie and Bill Sarris and Mildred Miller Posvar.

The dancing stretched way past midnight, and everyone rang in the New Year with champagne and a petite box of chocolates from Sarris Candies.
